On3 5-star defensive lineman set to visit Auburn this weekend
Newly minted On3 five-star defensive lineman LJ McCray is getting down to the final weeks of his recruitment, with a commitment decision expected by the end of October.
McCray has already taken four official visits: Auburn, Miami, Florida and Georgia in June. He visited the Bulldogs again at the end of July and has already made stops at Miami and Florida this fall. FSU will get his final visit on October 7 before his expected decision.
But sandwiched in between there, the Tigers will get one last shot to impress McCray, who has been on the Plains twice before. He will be back this weekend for the Georgia game, he told GatorsOnline.com’s Corey Bender.

“Coach Garrett, I have a great relationship with him,” McCray told Bender of the Auburn program. “And of course it’s kind of a similar thing with Florida — a new head coach and new staff, and they’re kind of building something. So that’s definitely a thing that I like as well.”
Each of LJ McCray’s final five are still in the mix
While Georgia and Florida have been the two programs most closely linked to McCray, each of his top five schools is still very much in the running.
“All five schools are tight on my list,” McCray told On3’s Chad Simmons earlier this month. “I have talked to all five schools over the last three days and none of them are letting others create a gap in between them. I thought each visit would make it easier for me, going back to the summer, but I have enjoyed each visit so much that it is making it harder.”
Along with his relationship with defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett, McCray also likes the people in the Auburn program and the atmosphere around the city.
“I have visited Auburn twice and I just enjoy Auburn,” McCray told Simmons. “It is not just the football, but the people and the city at Auburn. Then I like Coach Jeremy Garrett a lot. He is super-personal and we have some great talks. The players are cool too and I like it on campus.
The 6-foot-6, 275-pounder is the No. 42 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
On3, however, is much higher on McCray than others in the recruiting industry, tabbing him as a five-star prospect and the nation’s No. 8 recruit in the latest On300 rankings.
