Ole Miss OL commit Jude Foster earns ‘surprising’ offer from Auburn

Somewhat lost in the midst of Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend was an offer that went out to an offensive lineman committed to a rival SEC school. Jude Foster, a 6-foot-4 270 pound offensive lineman from Baton Rouge (La.) Southern University Lab School, has now added an Auburn offer.

Foster is the No. 918 overall player in the country, the No. 74 interior offensive lineman, and the No. 29 player in the state of Louisiana according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Foster committed to Ole Miss in June and remains firmly committed to the Rebels.

“Since the end of June, so about a month now,” Foster said. “It’s going really good, a bunch of love. I went there Saturday, got to see the new facility and hung out with Coach Garrison and Coach Kiffin. I was just around the faculty and staff and was reunited with the people I will be with in a few months.”

Auburn offer was surprising

Foster earned the Auburn offer during the last week.

“I got offered on Thursday,” Foster said. “(Jake Thornton) called me. It was the first time I have talked to him, it was pretty surprising. I kind of knew that other schools would still pursue me and try to change my mind. So it was surprising but not too surprising.”

What was the message from Auburn offensive line coach Jake Thornton?

“He was just telling me he loves my film, giving me background information about where he’s been and how long he has been at Auburn,” Foster said. “He told me about the program, it is a winning program, all the type of offensive lineman they look for, how I can benefit them and how they can benefit me. Just small talk.”

Foster noted that he has some familiarity with the Auburn football program.

“I do, just over the years, playing football and watching a ton of college football,” Foster said. “Of course, Cam Newton and I told Coach Thornton I had been watching Auburn ever since they had Derrick Brown. He was an All-American, 5-star, 1st round draft pick, so he just has that dog mentality. I remember when he was in high school I used to watch his game as well.”

Seeing what the Tigers have to offer

Foster is firmly committed to Ole Miss, but will give Auburn a look, at the very least.

“Seeing what they have to offer,” Foster said. “I’m still committed to Ole Miss and still strong on my decision. Maybe if they have something that I see in them that Ole Miss may lack or see something in Ole Miss that Auburn may lack. Just keeping my options open and going in open-minded about everything.”

Foster looked into the fact that Auburn currently does not have any offensive linemen committed for the 2024 class.

“I did look into that after I got the offer,” Foster said. “That is something that they may lack or a need. They have a lot of guys leaving so they’re trying to get a lot of good offensive lineman to come in. Same way with a bunch of colleges out there. Everyone pretty much has the same problem and needs good offensive linemen.”

Thornton talked to Foster about an official visit. He will check with his parents to see if that visit will happen or not.

“Yes, he did,” Foster said. “He mentioned to me about an official visit during the season. I told him I would have to check back with my parents about that to make a decision if we want to go ahead and do it or not.”
