Ole Miss offers three-star Illinois quarterback commit Trey Petty
On Wednesday, Ole Miss extended an offer to Starkville (Miss.) quarterback Trey Petty. The 6-foot-2, 195 pound prospect committed to Illinois back in May over notable offers from Indiana, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, North Texas, Troy and Memphis.
The in-state prospect received the offer from Ole Miss coordinator of recruiting strategy Kelvin Bolden and offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. He has visited Oregon and the Ducks could be close to offering as well.
As a junior, Petty threw for 2,737 yards and 30 touchdowns. On the ground, he added 766 yards and 17 more touchdowns. He completed 63 percent of his passes and averaged nearly 14 yards per completion.
Trey Petty spoke with OMSpirit’s Ben Garrett last year. He talked about what he’s looking for in a school.
“I’m looking for a school that wants me for me and that’s like a second home for me,” Petty said. “I want the best opportunity for me at whatever school I choose in the future. Also, I want to surround myself with successful and smart people that are going to keep it real with me from day one.”
Petty has received additional interest from Notre Dame, Indiana, Akron, Georgia State and Louisiana-Monroe. He recently visited Mississippi State.
“(Ole Miss wide receivers) Coach (Derrick) Nix and (quarterback staffer) Fisher Ray have been keeping up with me and staying in contact with my coach,” Petty said. “The main thing they’ve been telling me is they love my film and they want to get me on a visit.”

“He is one of the top 2024 dual-threat quarterbacks in Mississippi,” Davis said. “Twitchy and explosive. Quick release with a big arm. He’s a gamer.”
