Ole Miss offers Louisville quarterback Khalib Johnson
The former three-star prospect out of Clay-Chalkville (Ala.) signed with former head man Scott Satterfield in the 2022 cycle over notable offers from Kansas, FIU, San Diego State and Virginia Tech. The two-time team captain threw for 5,478 yards and 72 career touchdowns. He was all-conference, all-state and runner-up for Mr. Football in Alabama.
As a senior, the 6-foot-2, 218 pound Johnson tossed for 3,357 yards and 40 touchdowns. He added four more scores on the ground. Clay-Chalkville went 15-0 last season, defeating Hueytown (Ala.) in the 6A title game.
So why is Ole Miss offering another portal quarterback?
Johnson redshirted in 2022 so he will have four years of eligibility remaining wherever he goes. One could surmise Kiffin and Weis are planning for the future and wanting to build depth around Walker Howard and 2024 commit Demond Williams Jr. In a perfect world, returning starter Jaxson Dart goes off in 2023 and elects to go pro and enter his name in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Sanders is out of eligibility after the 2023 season so he does not factor in here. And regardless if Dart decides to leave after the year or not, Howard is going to be a factor in the quarterback race next season one way or another.

Another possibility is there is a quarterback on the roster who is leaving.
Because of the lack of slack on the proverbial rope, my guess would be Sanders. He has one last go-round before ultimately ending his playing career or making a run at the NFL, XFL or USFL. Howard leaving doesn’t make much sense since he is essentially quarterback in waiting for Kiffin and will be the face of the program when he takes over under center.
Still, this could be something or it could be nothing. Two walk-on quarterbacks remain if one of the three aforementioned signal callers leave. Kiffin and Weis could simply just be preparing in case it happens.
