Ole Miss offensive tackle commit John Wayne Oliver named to 2023 Dandy Dozen

CPA (Tenn.) offensive lineman John Wayne Oliver took his time with his recruitment. He narrowed his scope and got it down to a Top 3 three of Auburn, Ole Miss and TCU. Then he took his official visits. And now he has made a commitment public.
Oliver is now the third offensive line commit in Ole Miss’ 2024 class. He joins Southern University Lab School (La.) offensive tackle Jude Foster and Natchitoches Central (La.) interior offensive lineman Joseph Cryer.
The Ole Miss commit has played just about everywhere on the line during his time at CPA, but the Rebels like him as an offensive tackle in the future. The tall frame and mature physical makeup bodes well for his prospects protecting the blind side and/or plowing open running lanes as a right tackle.
The sales pitch from John Garrison to John Wayne Oliver was simple.
“Coach told me I remind him a lot of Ikem Ekwonu,” Oliver said. “They want me as an offensive tackle and the staff thinks he and I have a lot of similarities. Our playing style, too. They think I can be like him.”
Ekwonu, who was coached by Garrison at NC State, was a consensus first-team All-American selection in 2021. He was also a finalist for the Outland Trophy and won the ACC’s Jacobs Blocking Award. He was also a first-team All-ACC selection and was selected 6th overall by the Carolina Panthers in the 2022 NFL Draft.

John Wayne Oliver has no issue with being versatile and doing what is asked of him.
“I can play guard, no problem, but I prefer to be in space,” Oliver said. “I’m athletic enough and I prefer that.”
The newest Rebel commit also had a chance to sit down with the head coach on his official visit. Oliver and Kiffin had a chance to talk ball but also just sit and relax.
“He’s a lot more laid back and soft spoken,” Oliver said. “Not many people realize that. He’s way different from Twitter. We talked about some football but mostly just hanging out.”
Oliver and CPA kick off the season August 19 against Brentwood Academy and 2025 Ole Miss quarterback target George MacIntyre.
