Ole Miss Morning-After: Rebels already had our curiosity, now they have our attention post-Mercer

It’s the morning after Ole Miss football made easy work of Mercer to open the 2023 season, and Ben Garrett (Ole Miss Spirit/On3) and Bradley Sowell (former Rebel offensive lineman/eight-year NFL veteran) are here to break it all down.
Among the topics: Jaxson Dart started, as expected, and looked in complete control. Elsewhere, the Rebels Harris, Tre and Zxavian, each caught Brad’s eye for their particular forms of dominance. Plus, a currently-thin Suntarine Perkins is going to be special and so much more.
“(The Rebels’) talent is high,” Sowell said. “I’ve seen a lot of Ole Miss football. This is a deep team. This is as good of an offense as Ole Miss has ever had from just an all-around, top-to-bottom standpoint. We have dudes who would be starting on (other) teams that aren’t getting to play.
“I’m at an 8-4, 9-3 (for the Rebels’ end-of-year record). We are going to beat somebody we aren’t supposed to this year. I feel it. You better show up against this offense. This is a very talented offense.
“Good luck defending it.”
Ole Miss is 1-0, and next up is a road trip to Tulane.
The Green Wave entered the year ranked No. 24 in the country in Top 25 polls — just two spots below the Rebels — and also opened the season with a win on Saturday.
But let’s pass on what’s next for now and focus on what just went down. Suffice to say, there’s a lot of ground to cover.
Time to get after it.
