ATLANTA – Ohio State and Notre Dame are the last two teams standing at the end of the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff. In years past, the Buckeyes and Fighting Irish would not hof cracked the four-team field.
But with an expanded playoff, the two blue-blood programs meet Monday night in the national title game. The Buckeyes are searching for their first national championship in a decade, rewriting their season after the Michigan loss and winning three straight to punch their ticket to Atlanta.
Marcus Freeman played at Ohio State and now leads Notre Dame into the national title game. The Fighting Irish have won 13 straight after their loss to Northern Illinois. They blew past Indiana, outplayed Georgia at its own game and overcame a first-half deficit to stun Penn State to land in the national title bout.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
