Ohio State offensive line board expands, offers top 50 prospect Jackson Lloyd

COLUMBUS — Ohio State continues to evaluate every offensive lineman prospect across the country as it gets closer and closer toward official visit season with just one big man in the class.

Four-star Toledo (Ohio) Whitmer offensive tackle Carter Lowe committed to the Buckeyes back in January. And he’s been the solo offensive lineman since. Offensive line coach Justin Frye has been very busy on the recruiting trail these last few weeks.

Four-star Carmel (Calif) offensive tackle Jackson Lloyd announced his offer from Ohio State on Tuesday afternoon.

After a great conversation with @CoachJFrye, I am extremely blessed to receive my 19th Division 1 offer from THE Ohio State University! Thank you @OhioStateFB for this opportunity! @BrandonHuffman @CarmelFootball @PadreSports #AGTG pic.twitter.com/SecYflm6pE

Lloyd stands at 6-foot-6 and 280 pounds. He’s the No. 29 overall prospect and the No. 6 offensive tackle according to On3. That’s much higher than the On3 Industry Rankings, which has Lloyd as the No. 152 overall prospect and the No. 12 offensive tackle.

Frye was the one who offered Lloyd, but it’s offensive coordinator Chip Kelly who has the best relationship with the California prospect. Kelly offered Lloyd before he left UCLA for Ohio State. In fact, UCLA was the first offer Lloyd had in his collection of 19.

As it stands, however, the Buckeyes have a ways to go. Alabama has emerged as the clear front-runner for Lloyd’s pledge. He has visited Tuscaloosa twice, most recently on April 3. He has an official visit locked in for June 14-16 with the Crimson Tide as well.

On3’s Steve Wiltfong placed a prediction into the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine on Alabama to land Lloyd. But can the Buckeyes make up ground and at least, at worst, delay that predicted commitment? If Kelly, Frye and head coach Ryan Day can get Lloyd on campus for at least an official visit, that would be a win. It is admittedly a long shot, but it’s not unrealistic.

Here’s a snippet of Lloyd’s thoughts on committing early versus after the summer.

“I think so, yeah,” Lloyd told BamaOnline. “I think the main thing is going to spring practices and seeing how they coach. With all these coaches I’m going to go see at practices, I feel like I already have a pretty good relationship with most of the coaching staff. So, seeing how they coach. And just getting on campus.

Ohio State has offered two offensive linemen besides Lloyd during the spring contact period. Andrew Stargell and Henry Fenuku both now hold offers from the Buckeyes.
