Ohio State linebacker commit Garrett Stover ‘excited’ about official visit weekend

COLUMBUS — Ohio State has a number of official visitors heading to campus this weekend.

It’s a solid mix of commits and targets. Among the group of visitors is four-star Sunbury (Ohio) Big Walnut linebacker Garrett Stover.

Stover was the first defensive commit for the Buckeyes and the first in-state prospect as well. For him, it wasn’t a matter of if, but a matter of when he’d commit to Ohio State. That was solved the week of The Game and since then he’s been as locked as any prospect you could find.

He’s been to Ohio State as he says “100 times” and this weekend it’s all about building relationships.

“I am very excited to see all the other recruits and other commits I have not met yet,” Stover told Lettermen Row.

The Buckeyes have eight commits heading to town not including Stover. Among them are Jeremiah Smith, Mylan Graham and Ian Moore.

Stover has a number of defensive targets to work on this weekend as well. Four-star Nashville (Tenn) Lipscomb Academy linebacker Edwin Spillman takes his official visit this weekend. Those two have built up a very strong relationship but this weekend it will certainly escalate.

Other defensive targets this weekend include Marquise Lightfoot, Darien Mayo, D’antre Robinson and Jaylen McClain.

Stover certainly will put on his recruiting hat this weekend, but he will also make time to enjoy the experience for himself with his family.

“I’m really just looking forward to building relationships with all the commute and other recruits,” he said. “I can’t wait though, me and my family are very excited.”

Stover, the younger cousin of Ohio State tight end Cade Stover, has a large number of his family going on the visit. The cousins will spend time with one another as well.

With as many visitors heading into town and Stover’s knowledge of Ohio State, he will serve as one of the largest peer recruiters for the Buckeyes.

Garrett Stover will make his way down to Ohio State sometime Friday afternoon. He will be busy with peer recruiting, but enjoying his time with his family too.
