Ohio State leads 2024 cycle in highest average rating per commitment

Ohio State leads 2024 cycle in highest average rating per commitment

Ohio State carries the No. 2 class in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, but the Buckeyes beat out Georgia and a host of other SEC schools in one category: the highest average rating per commit.

On3’s database allows users to also sort the team rankings by the highest average rating per commitment, giving them the chance to see which programs have the most quality commitments instead of the most quantity. While that doesn’t drastically change the top of the rankings, it does shake things up a little bit.

Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver Jeremiah Smith sits atop Ohio State’s class as the No. 1 overall player in the 2024 cycle. He’s one of three five-star commits for coach Ryan Day, as Chicago St. Ignatius defensive lineman Justin Scott and New Haven (Ind.) wide receiver Mylan Graham rank No. 12 and No. 16 overall, respectively.

Below are the top 10 teams based on average rating per commitment:

1. Ohio State

Average Rating per Commit: 92.26
Total Commits: 19

Flanking the Buckeyes’ trio of five-stars is a hoard of four-stars. Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes quarterback Air Noland, Springfield (Ohio) cornerback Aaron Scott Jr., Cleveland Glenville cornerback Bryce West and San Antonio Veterans Memorial running back James Peoples all rank inside the top 100 of the On3 Industry Rankings. Aaron Scott is OSU’s latest commit and was one of three blue-chippers to pledge in July, along with Justin Scott and Chandler (Az.) Basha four-star cornerback Miles Lockhart.

2. Alabama

Average Rating per Commit: 92.00
Total Commits: 14

The Crimson Tide held the top spot in rating per commit entering July, but Foley (Ala.) five-star wide receiver Perry Thompson flipping to Auburn and the additions made by Ohio State allowed the Buckeyes to jump into first place. Despite that, Carlsbad (Ga.) Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Julian Sayin and Pinson (Ala.) Clay-Chalkville five-star athlete Jaylen Mbakwe lead the way for another stellar class in Tuscaloosa that features six top-100 prospects. Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei four-star cornerback Zabien Brown, Carrollton (Ga.) four-star tight end Caleb Odom and Lindale (Texas) four-star interior offensive lineman Casey Poe are all top-10 prospects at their respective positions. Birmingham (Ala.) Parker four-star defensive lineman Jeremiah Beaman also sits above the Tide’s average commit rating.

3. Georgia

Average Rating per Commit: 91.92
Total Commits: 26

Georgia joins Ohio State as the only programs to have commitments from three five-star prospects, though the Bulldogs are the only team to have pledges from multiple Five-Star Plus+ players in Buford (Ga.) quarterback Dylan Raiola and Conroe (Texas) Oak Ridge linebacker Justin Williams. New Haven (Conn.) IMG Academy five-star cornerback Ellis Robinson IV is the top corner in the class, while Raymore (Mo.) Peculiar four-star tight end Jaden Reddell is the No. 2 TE in the cycle. In total, eight Bulldog commits are top-100 prospects, including top-75 Conroe (Texas) Oak Ridge defensive lineman Joseph Jonah-Ajonye and Moultrie (Ga.) Colquitt County wide receiver Ny Carr.

4. Auburn

Average Rating per Commit: 90.78
Total Commits: 14

Chilton County five-star linebacker Demarcus Riddick flipped from Georgia, while Foley (Ala.) five-star wide receiver Perry Thompson flipped from Alabama. Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview four-star cornerback Jalyn Crawford became Auburn’s second pledge from the state of Georgia, while Alexander City (Ala.) Benjamin Russell four-star athlete Malcom Simmons committed the same day that Thompson flipped on July 29. Tuskegee (Ala.) Booker T Washington four-star linebacker Joseph Phillips and Little Rock (Ark.) Christian four-star quarterback Walker White are both top-150 prospects.

5. USC

USC is currently the only program on this list without a five-star commit, but 11 of the Trojans’ 16 commits are four-stars. Los Angeles Sierra Canyon wide receiver Xavier Jordan, Long Beach (Calif.) Millikan WR Ryan Pellum, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco cornerback Marcelles Williams and Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra CB Dakoda Fields are all top-100 prospects.
