Ohio State commit takes second visit to Alabama in month
Jontae Gilbert, the No. 3 cornerback in the 2025 class per the On3 Industry Ranking, visited the University of Alabama on Saturday making it the second time in less than a month. The Ohio State commitment attended the Tide’s spring game after receiving a scholarship offer from Nick Saban during an unofficial visit on March 24.
Gilbert, who returned to Tuscaloosa with his father and uncle, is recruited by Alabama as a cornerback. He focused on several players during the visit and came away impressed with the young/talented secondary.
“The secondary really stood out to me,” Gilbert said. “I was impressed with Earl Little, Caleb Downs, Jake Pope and Desmond Ricks. I thought the overall defense played, honestly. I can’t wait to see what the guys do in the fall.”

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound athlete spent time with Alabama secondary coach, Travaris Robinson. The Tide staff has turned up the heat since extending the offer last month.
“I talked to Coach T-Rob,” he said. “Him and Coach Saban really want me. They know I’m committed, but they are going to try and change that. Alabama has great coaches. They are all about developing their players which is what I like about their program.”
Gilbert does not have any additional visit plans scheduled at this time. He will return to Tuscaloosa this summer. Alabama also had a few other elite corners in the ’25 class on campus for A-Day including Devin Sanchez (No. 1) and Devin Williams (No. 6).

Sanchez spoke highly about the competition level at Alabama with BamaInsider after the visit.
“Most schools have competition with just the ones,” Sanchez said. “Alabama has competition all over.” Gilbert’s interest also continues to climb. The Crimson Tide will certainly press hard for the elite corners in ’25.
“Alabama is really high in my interest level, honestly,” Gilbert stated. “What stands out to me is the culture and the winning mentality they have.”
Gilbert remains committed to the Buckeyes at this time. He is keeping his options open with strong interest in Alabama. He is also hearing regularly from Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Tennessee.
