Mesquite (Texas) Dallas Christian cornerback William Nettles was in Lincoln again this weekend. The three-star corner visited Nebraska earlier in the spring. This time was an official visit, and he felt he needed to understand campus life better and connect with the coaches on his second visit to Nebraska.
“We got in on Thursday night, but we didn’t do anything until Friday,” Nettles said. “On Friday, we met in the morning, and we did player development, academic support, saw the new facility, did a tour, and later that night at dinner we did a photo shoot.”
William Nettles gets another look at facility construction at Nebraska
Many things have been completed on campus in Nebraska since Nettles was there in April. He had a chance to see the progress on the new football facilities and liked the idea of all of the improvements being complete by the time he got to Nebraska if he chose the Huskers.
“They are definitely making a lot of progress from the first time that I was up here for an unofficial visit. It was nice. I know that it’s really expensive and if I do come here it’s going to be nice to have it all set up and be ready when I get here.”
Nettles wanted to see several things in Lincoln this second time around. There was a need to understand “the day in a life” of a football player and see if Nebraska if the right fit for him.
“I wanted to see how the other players were living, get a better perspective from the players, and get a better feel for what campus life is like,” Nettles said. “Just wanted to confirm that Nebraska is really a good place for me.”
The players all had similar thoughts for William Nettles about Nebraska
There was consistency in the message from the football players to Nettles about Nebraska and the new coaching staff. That was reassuring to Nettles.
“My host was Kaine Williams and he had a lot of good things to say about coach Rhule and also about coach Cooper. It was really good to hear that all of the players are saying a little bit of the same thing about the head coach and DB coach.
“All of the players have told me the same thing. They love playing for him, and that’s why they go so hard for him. They all have trust for each other and it’s really a family.
There was also time to chat with the coaching staff. Nettles spent a lot of time with the head coach and the defensive backs coaches to chat about recruiting and the visit.
“It’s been good because I have gotten some one on one time with coach Rhule and Cooper,” Nettles said. “We just talked about where I stand with Nebraska and how I felt about it, how my weekend was going, and it was good to have that check up.”
On top of talking about the visit, there was an opportunity to discuss where Nettles could play at Nebraska. The Huskers see Nettles playing everywhere in the secondary and could even see him playing wide receiver too, after he was all-state for both his junior year.
“They said that basically every DB they have that they like to play then wherever. They do that because at the next level those coaches know that they can play every position on the field. We even talked about me playing offense because I do play wide receiver, but my first position is defensive back.”
Visit was perfect and he has two more OVs scheduled for June
Nettles couldn’t find anything wrong with the visit to Nebraska and gave the trip an excellent grade. He feels great about all he saw and experienced on both visits to Lincoln.
“It was definitely a ’10’,” Nettles said. “I didn’t find anything wrong with the visit. Everyone was nice, hospitality was great, food was great, they have a lot of support around the city, the coaches support me, and I feel like I can really trust them.”
There are two more visits for Nettles coming up in June. He will see another Big Ten school and then check out the hometown school later in the month. There might be a need to take more visits, but Nettles wants to decide soon.
“I have an OV for only two more places. There is Purdue on Father’s Day weekend and SMU the following weekend. These three are the only visits I have right now. If I do plan to take another visit then it would probably be to Duke or USC.”
Nettles wants to decide in mid-July if he is ready or late July at the worst. He wants to have his commitment made by the time he starts school.
