Official visit change for Jamonta Waller, No. 2 recruit in Mississippi

Official visit change for Jamonta Waller, No. 2 recruit in Mississippi

Four-star linebacker Jamonta Waller of Picayune Memorial (Miss.), the No. 2 prospect in the state of Mississippi, no longer will officially visit the Gators the first weekend in June.

Instead, that trip now will be June 16, according to Waller.

No reason was given for the switch.

He plans to officially visit Penn State the weekend prior to his trip to Gainesville. Those are his only two known officials at this time.

Waller, listed at 6-foot-0.5, 230 pounds, is the No. 7 linebacker and No. 80 overall recruit nationally according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Ole Miss, with a projection rate of 80.6 percent, is the overwhelming favorite to land Waller in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Florida is next at 4.5 percent.

He visited the Rebels last weekend and again in early April.

Waller’s only previous known visit to Florida was March 11.

“It was just a great visit,” he said after that stop. “When I visited there a couple of weeks ago, I just felt like it was somewhere I could be. I’m just taking it step by step, so I’m starting with the official visit.”

Waller said he was impressed by Gators coach Billy Napier, defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong and outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson.

“The coaches, man; it was the energy they had and the players were feeding off of it. It was just a great sight to see,” Waller said.

What position would Waller play at Florida?

Peterson is Waller’s lead Gators recruiter. Florida likes him at the jack linebacker spot.

“Coach Mike (Peterson) — me and him have a great relationship,” Waller said in March. “He hits me up and is always telling me to stay focused. After I left Florida, the head coach also hit me up and that was cool. There are some more coaches as well.”

As a junior, Waller recorded 106 total tackles (63 solo), 24 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks. Additionally, he had two fumble recoveries, one interception, one forced fumble and five pass deflections.
