Observations from Oregon’s fourth spring practice; Ducks’ offensive line two-deep taking shape

The Oregon Ducks held their fourth practice of the 2023 spring slate Thursday at the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex outdoor practice fields

As is typically the case, the opening 20 minutes of practice were open to reporters. During that period, the Ducks went through stretching, warmups, special teams drills, and a series of position-specific drills.

Here are a few notes and observations from that period.

Injuries and absences

The only new, significant absence on Thursday was that of redshirt freshman defensive back Jalil Tucker. He was not seen during the open portion of practice, nor when players were entering the practice fields.

Offensive lineman Junior Angilau was limited once again on Thursday but was in uniform. Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Michael Wooten was also limited.

Additionally, junior receiver Josh Delgado, redshirt freshman receiver Justius Lowe, freshman outside linebacker Jaeden Moore, and junior safety Daymon David were also absent.

Practice observations

The Ducks’ kickoff and punt return groups remained unchanged from the first three days of spring practice.

Those groups were as follows:

Punt return

Tez JohnsonTroy FranklinKris HutsonCole Martin

Oregon’s offensive linemen worked on a non-contact combo blocking drill and were divided among four groups. While it’s far too early in the spring to know whether those groups indicate any sort of depth chart hierarchy, it is certainly worth noting where a few specific players lined up.

The groups were as follows, with players listed from left tackle to right tackle.

First group: Josh Conerly, Dave Iuli, Marcus Harper, Steven Jones, George Silva

Second group: Faoope Laulu, Charlie Pickard, Jackson Powers-Johnson, Kawika Rogers, Ajani Cornelius

Third group: Cole Young, Iapani Laloulu, Kanen Rossi, Holden Whipple, Bailey Jaramillo

Angilau, a projected starter at guard, worked in the back of the offensive line group, along with Wooten and walk-on redshirt freshman Ty Delgado.

Oregon coaches clinic

On Thursday, the Ducks had a much more expansive audience watching practice than usual. Coaches from numerous high schools around the country were on hand for the first day of Oregon’s annual coaches clinic.

The group of guest speakers for the clinic is expansive and features a mix of NFL coaches and former Oregon coaches.
