Nuggets: Kansas State quarterback situation

Nuggets: Kansas State quarterback situation

Kansas State quarterback situation

I’ll provide a more thorough update on Saturday morning, but the Kansas State quarterback situation has been an evolving one this week. Of course, it was head coach Chris Klieman that called Will Howard questionable. K-State offensive coordinator Collin Klein said essentially the same thing on Thursday.

Klieman also mentioned that it would be Kansas State true freshman Avery Johnson under center if Howard was unavailable and unable to go. As I mentioned a few days ago, the nature of Howard’s injury is one that can make progress throughout the week with rest and treatment.

It will come down to how much progress that he can make and that plan will be determined on Friday and maybe even be taken a bit into Saturday since UCF and K-State don’t kick off until the evening. I know that Howard has made enough improvement to not be ruled out at the moment.

With that being said, and I’ve also said this already, I expect Johnson to play more versus UCF than he did against Missouri.

Update on Oakley

It has been under-the-radar but another sneaky injury thus far this season has been that of Kansas State tight end Garrett Oakley. His return would be a welcome sign, as he was having a terrific offseason and turning his heads before being dinged up during training camp.

According to Klieman and a few sources behind the scenes, Oakley did return to practice this week. If he’s free and cleared, I’m sure he will be limited but he’ll be part of the regular rotation when that happens.

K-State on the road

The recruitment with a lot of eyes on it during the final week of September is the one surrounding Junction City linebacker Michael Boganowski.

He has already taken that extra September trip to Oklahoma and K-State. Up next is a trot eastward within the state to check out Kansas on Saturday for their 2:30 p.m. bout with BYU. That should be his final visit of the process. A decision is expected soon afterwards.

Do not be surprised if the Wildcats have a presence at Boganowski’s game on Friday evening.
