Notre Dame looking to host top receiver talent for July 30 cookout

Notre Dame has commitments from Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard South’s Cam Williams and Charlotte (N.C.) Christian’s Micah Gilbert at the receiver position in the 2024 class. Position coach Chansi Stuckey and Co. are looking to add a third receiver to replace Warner Robins (Ga.) High’s Isiah Canion, who decommitted from the Irish a week ago today and has since flipped to Georgia Tech.
Who the player is who Notre Dame will land is very much to be determined. Notre Dame is evaluating all options, including circling back to older targets and eyeing new targets. But don’t count out the Irish going after a prospect currently committed elsewhere.
While Notre Dame is putting the finishing touches on its 2024 receiver class, it’s ahead of the game in the 2025 cycle. I already have two predictions in for Notre Dame to land a couple prospects at the position in the rising junior class and could see myself logging another one very soon. And these players are looking to get to campus July 30 for the staff’s cookout recruiting event, dubbed the “grill and chill.”
Geneva (Ill.) Community’s Talyn Taylor, the No. 59 overall prospect and No. 10 wideout per the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, will visit for the July 30 event, according to a source. It’s an important visit from a key prospect, as Taylor is a big-time pass catcher from Chicago, and we all know how nice it would be for the Irish to land talent from the 312.
Taylor, who was last on campus March 25, holds offers from the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Michigan, Miami, Tennessee, Michigan State and many others.
Atlanta Woodward Academy’s Jerome Bettis Jr., the No. 59 wide receiver nationally and No. 38 player from the state of Georgia for the 2025 class, tells me that he’ll also be on campus July 30. He’s the player I’m close to logging a prediction for. In all transparency, I feel really good about the chances of him ending up at Notre Dame already, but I’m wanting to be patient on this pick. If all goes well during his visit at the end of the month, I’ll go ahead and log the prediction.
Notre Dame really wants to get Las Vegas Bishop Gorman’s Derek Meadows, the No. 341 overall player and No. 51 wideout per the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, back on campus. Meadows, who was recently named the 2022-23 Gatorade Nevada Boys Track & Field Player of the Year, dominated at Notre Dame’s Irish Invasion camp in early June and earned an offer from the staff while on campus.
I logged my prediction for him to choose the Irish a couple days after the camp’s conclusion and still feel pretty good about it. Meadows is a huge priority for Notre Dame in the 2025 class. Folks, go ahead and take a screenshot of Meadows’ current ranking. I feel pretty confident in saying that he’s going to see his ranking soar in the coming months.
Meadows tells me that he’s looking at getting to Notre Dame for the cookout but has yet to schedule the trip.
Scottsdale (Ariz.) Notre Dame Preparatory’s Cooper Perry, the No. 244 prospect and No. 38 receiver per the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking, is also looking at visiting July 30. He tells me that it “might” happen but it’s not scheduled yet. Back in early May, I logged a pick for Perry to end up at Notre Dame, and I still like that projection.
It’s way too early to project class numbers at a position for the 2025 class, but my guess for the next cycle would be four. I like Notre Dame to land Perry, Meadows and Bettis. That trio plus Taylor would be a darn good group.
