Notre Dame hosts, evaluating four-star QB Stone Saunders

Harrisburg (Pa.) Bishop McDevitt class of 2025 quarterback Stone Saunders had a sophomore season for the ages.
He won the 2022 Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year award — among several other notable honors — as he passed for 3,583 yards and 54 touchdowns in leading his team to a 4A Pennsylvania state championship. The likes of Texas A&M, Michigan, Georgia and Wisconsin are among Saunders’ offer list early on in his recruitment.
Notre Dame has yet to extend a scholarship to Saunders, who ranks as the nation’s No. 180 overall recruit and No. 15 signal-caller according to the On3 Industry Ranking. But the Fighting Irish staff did host him for a visit March 25, which seemed to go well.
“I’ve never been there before, so it was just taking it all in,” Saunders said. “It was really impressive — great people and coaches.”
Saunders notes that he spent a good amount of time with new Irish quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli during the visit.
“They seem very interested in me,” Saunders said of the Notre Dame staff.
The Irish staff is expected to take an in-person look at Saunders during the spring evaluation period later this month. College coaches can start hitting the road April 15, but the Irish coaches aren’t expected to do so until the Monday after the Blue-Gold Game, which will be played April 22.
“It’s obviously a special place with special people,” Saunders stated regarding Notre Dame. “I look forward to spending more time with all of them.”
On3’s own rankings list Saunders as the No. 254 overall prospect and No. 20 quarterback in the 2025 class.
Where Notre Dame stands at quarterback in the 2025 class
Notre Dame has several quarterback offers out in the 2025 class: Belleville (Mich.) High’s Bryce Underwood, Nashville (Tenn.) Brentwood Academy’s George MacIntyre, Lexington (Ky.) Christian Academy’s Cutter Boley, Saraland (Ala.) High’s K.J. Lacey, Warner Robins (Ga.) Houston County’s Antwann Hill, Lucedale (Miss.) George County’s Deuce Knight and Findlay (Ohio) High’s Ryan Montgomery.
Of that group, Notre Dame does not look to be actively recruiting Hill and Montgomery. Underwood is likely a long shot for the Irish. Notre Dame has an uphill climb for MacIntyre, but he looks to be pretty interested in the Irish.
When Blue & Gold interviewed Lacey a couple weeks ago, he admitted he didn’t know very much about the Fighting Irish program. That will also be an uphill climb.
Notre Dame looks to be in strong position with both Knight and Boley. Both prospects have visited South Bend this spring. I’m liking where the Irish are at with Knight especially.
