Notes, takeaways from Miami’s prospect camp that drew more than 100 recruits from different states

Miami hosted its sixth camp of the year Thursday and its second formal prospect camp, drawing more than 100 recruits from different states, including a few notable talents the Hurricanes gave a look to.
Here are a few notes and takeaways from Miami’s Thursday prospect camp.
CB OJ Frederique dominates competition
St. Thomas Aquinas 2024 cornerback Romanas “OJ” Frederique looked like the best all-around prospect at Miami’s camp and was easily the best cornerback among the group. Frederique didn’t lose a rep during one-on-one drills against the best receiver talent at the camp and caught attention from secondary coach Jahmile Addae and general manager Alonzo Highsmith, both of whom watched him closely during the competition. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back is currently unranked in the On3 Industry Ranking, but we expect that to change in the coming months.
Miami recruiting 4-star 2025 two-way star Gus Ritchey at TE, and he stuck around for weekend
There was some question about whether Pittsboro (N.C.) Northwood 2025 four-star prospect Gus Ritchey would be recruited as a tight end or an EDGE, but the Hurricanes will recruit him on the offensive side after Thursday’s camp. Ritchey worked out exclusively on the offensive side and looked fine at tight end, and the 6-foot-3, 225-pound recruit said he doesn’t have a preference where he’s recruited at. He already has an impressive offer list including Georgia, Notre Dame, Michigan and Oregon, among others. He’ll stay in Miami through the weekend for an unofficial visit.
Canes watch 2024 S Noah Jenkins, although no offer yet
Miami linebackers coach Derek Nicholson discussed the possibility of Noah Jenkins attending a Miami prospect camp when he last traveled to Virginia during the evaluation period, and the 6-foot-1.5, 205-pound safety looked good during workouts. The Hurricanes did not offer Jenkins, however, who currently holds offers from Penn State, South Carolina and Ole Miss, among others.
4-star 2024 TE Jamie Tremble makes appearance at camp
Norcross (Ga.) Wesleyan School 2024 four-star tight end Jamie Tremble was another target present at Miami’s camp Thursday and performed well overall. Like Jenkins, Tremble does not hold a Miami offer and did not receive an offer at the camp, but he’s started to slowly gain some attention from different programs after an encouraging spring.
2026 QB Jaden O’Neal shines, earns Miami offer
While Frederique dominated the cornerback competition, 6-foot-3, 200-pound soon-to-be sophomore quarterback Jaden O’Neal was every bit as impressive as the Hurricanes hoped he would be and landed his Miami offer. Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Shannon Dawson watched the O’Neal, a class of 2026 recruit, closely during quarterback drills, and he was all-around the best signal caller present Thursday. With a strong arm, good accuracy and encouraging mobility, we expect O’Neal to be a big-time recruit once his class takes the recruiting spotlight.
