Noreel White gives Ole Miss a type of wide receiver its 2024 class just didn’t have

Noreel White gives Ole Miss a type of wide receiver its 2024 class just didn’t have

Noreel White committed to Ole Miss last week.

Actually, he was one of three four-star recruits secured by the Rebels over a seven-day span

The others were quarterback Trever Jackson and EDGE Kamarion Franklin. Franklin was the headliner of the group. He’s the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of Mississippi for the 2024 cycle and ranked as a Top 30 prospect but all but one of the four major recruiting services.

But White is certainly no slouch himself. He’s ranked as the No. 310 prospect in the country by the On3 Industry Ranking, as well as the No. 52 wide receiver and the No. 9 prospect in Mississippi.

And more specifically to the Rebels, White joins a recruiting class previously devoid of his unique skillset.

“He’s a great get,” On3 scouting and rankings assistant Cody Bellaire said of White last week, in a one-on-one sit-down with the Ole Miss Spirit

“I think Ole Miss is getting someone at the receiver position that they don’t exactly have in this current 2024 receiver crop. They have bigger-bodied guys like Jeremy Scott and SanFrisco Magee. You have an actual burner in the slot, or Z, in Rahji Dennis.

“Noreel, in my opinion, brings a safety net to this group.”

Bellaire recently offered up a comp of now-former Texas A&M running back Devon Achane when discussing White.

It’s easy to understand why.

White ran a verified, laser-timed 40-yard dash in the 4.5s over the summer. He also jumped a 33-inch vertical, logged a 4.4 shuttle and ran an 11.5 in the 100 meter during the spring track season.

Where he separates himself, according to Bellaire, is in his route-running, and Ole Miss, unlike some other schools, is recruiting White exclusively as a wide receiver. He chose the Rebels over Mississippi State, Arkansas and others. He also has positional versatility as a potential defensive back.

“He’s a crafty route-runner that has excellent ball skills and posses tremendous (yards after catch) ability. He’s able to make defenders miss with the ball in his hands,” Bellaire said.

White last season finished with 1,109 all-purpose yards. He had 650 receiving and 255 rushing and scored 13 touchdowns. White also finished with 55 tackles and three interceptions on defense. He plans on graduating from St. Martin High School in Ocean Springs in December, and if he does, he’ll enroll at Ole Miss in January and participate in spring practices.

White is one of seven four-star commitments for the Rebels in a 2024 class now ranked No. 21 overall in the country. Exactly half of the 22-man class are from within Mississippi’s borders, including four-star defensive linemen Kamron Beavers and Jeffery Rush.

“Ole Miss fans will hear his name over the loudspeakers very often in Vaught-Hemingway simply due to the volume of catches he’s going to have at the next level,” Bellaire said.
