Noah Hall plucked in 2023 MLB Draft

Noah Hall plucked in 2023 MLB Draft

Much like some of his other teammates, Noah Hall passed on heading to the pros last year and return to South Carolina. He was a 20th round MLB Draft choice of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Feeling unsatisfied, Hall returned to Columbia for one more year. He believed there was still some unfinished business to take care of.

Now one year later, Hall’s name was called in the draft once again. This time, he was selected No. 216 overall (7th Round) in the 2023 MLB Draft by the New York Mets.

Despite seeing his season cut short by injury, Hall did more than enough to impress pro scouts. He went 5-1 with a 3.29 ERA and 43 strikeouts to nine walks in seven starts.

Hall, the Gamecocks’ Saturday starter, only had one outing where he went less than five innings. He pitched into the seventh inning or deeper in three outings. He threw a complete game against Georgia on March 18, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out five.

Hall rose to stardom in 2022 after injuries forced him to become the team’s Friday night pitcher. He went 3-5 with a 4.34 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 12 starts. He was named the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week twice during May that year.

Before coming to South Carolina, Hall pitched for two seasons at Appalachian State. He pitched to a 1.80 ERA out of the bullpen in 2020. In 2021, he went 5-1 with a 3.99 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 18 games (five starts).

South Carolina is coming off a quality season in 2023 that included the program’s first 40-win season and top 16 seed since 2016 and first Super Regional appearance since 2018.

The Gamecocks finished 42-21 (16-13 SEC) and ran through the Columbia regional before ultimately getting swept in a Super Regional by the eventual national runners-up in Florida.

It’s been a hectic offseason for South Carolina from staff turnover to roster additions over the last few weeks. Liberty’s Matt Williams replaced Justin Parker as the Gamecocks’ pitching coach with Parker leaving to take the same position at Mississippi State.

Monte Lee will be back for year two as the Gamecocks’ recruiting coordinator and associate head coach under Mark Kingston. South Carolina is also adding Joey Holcomb as the team’s third paid assistant, coming over after a pair of years at Campbell.
