It has been the least-publicized of the three NIL organizations that provide business and marketing opportunities for Florida State student-athletes, but Micconope 1851 made an announcement Tuesday that CEO Mike Underwood believes can be a game-changer for FSU players in all sports.

According to a release from Micconope 1851, the group has teamed with Seminole legend Marvin Jones to launch the Marvin Jones LASER Center. LASER stands for Life After Sports Employment Resource, and the center will provide many services, including:

“We could not be more proud of our work in the NIL space and the amazing opportunity to partner with a true Seminole legend in Marvin Jones,” Underwood said. “We recognized early that NIL could do far than just provide monetary earnings. We know all too well a successful career search requires resources, but also a tenacity and relentless spirit. We knew Marvin exemplified these traits and will embody the LASER mission.”

The LASER Center’s permanent home will be located near the Florida State campus on North Monroe Street, and it is scheduled to open after a ribbon-cutting event on Nov. 9, according to the release. Until then, services will be provided by human resources professionals virtually.

The center’s namesake, Jones, is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and was the No. 4 pick in the first round of the 1993 NFL Draft.

“I will definitely do anything asked of myself to show my commitment to Micconope1851 and of a shared commitment for a better future for our athletes,” Jones said in the release.

“This is what NIL should be about,” said Allen Beyer, a Florida State alum and board member of the NIL organization. “The effects of the ability to access career resources will pay dividends to these young people long after their collegiate careers are over.”

Earlier this year, Micconope 1861 announced a partnership with Blueprint Sports, a national organization that helps operate NIL collectives.
