In tonight’s Nightly Recruiting Briefing we will discuss the latest Michigan State official visit news. We will also talk a new transfer portal addition.
Kris Jones locks in official visit
Michigan State will host four-star linebacker Kris Jones of Fairfax (VA) for an official visit on Sunday, June 11-13. It will be the first visit to East Lansing for Jones.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker took an official visit to Florida on June 2. He also visit Georgia on June 16.
According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), Florida holds a commanding lead in Jones’ recruitment. The Gators sit with an 86% chance to land his pledge.
Jones is ranked the No. 149 overall recruit, the No. 15 linebacker, and the No. 1 recruit in Virginia by the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings.
Jason’s take:
Michigan State special teams coordinator Ross Els stopped by a workout of Jones’s during the May evaluation period, slowly working to convince the four-star to visit.
“Coach Els really wanted us to get on campus but to take my whole family is really expensive so when they invited us (for the OV) there was nothing stopping us,” Jones said. “I really don’t know much about Michigan State but my interactions with the staff have been pleasant. Coach Els seems like a cool guy, so I’m excited to learn more about MSU.”
The Spartans welcomed four-star linebacker Dylan Williams of Carson (CA) Long Beach Poly on June 2, making a big move as Michigan State pushes Oregon, USC, UCLA, and others for the top spot.
Michigan State will welcome four-stars Kamar Mothudi, of Los Angeles (CA) Campbell Hall School, along with Jeremiah Beasley of Belleville (MI) for official visits on June 9.
Mothudi will also visit Washington (June 17), Texas (June 20), and Oregon (June 23).
Beasley will visit Michigan (June 16) and Missouri (June 23) ahead of a June 29 decision date.
Terry Roberts commits
Transfer portal cornerback Terry Roberts, originally out of Iowa, appeared in East Lansing as a member of the 2023 roster on June 8. Roberts committed to Miami (FL) out of the portal, but never arrived on campus, showing up in East Lansing instead. He announced via twitter that his recruitment was now closed.
Roberts has 47 career tackles, 2 INTS, and 7 pass defenses in four seasons with Iowa.
