Nightly Recruiting Briefing: Michigan State to host 2024 QB this week
In tonight’s Nightly Recruiting Briefing we will discuss the latest Michigan State offer in the transfer portal. We will also discuss a new visitor and more.
New offer- Transfer Portal
Michigan State offered Purdue linebacker transfer Jacob Wahlberg on May 21. Originally from Norton Shores, Michigan, Wahlberg had 39 tackles, 1 FF, and 1 INT in 2022. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder was a member of the 2029 recruiting class, holding offers from Indiana, Minnesota, Iowa State, Pittsburgh, and more before signing with the Boilermakers. He was ranked a three-star, the No. 960 overall recruit, the No. 118 linebacker, and the No. 25 recruit in Michigan by the 2019 On3 Industry Rankings. Appalachian State, West Virginia, Cincinnati, and Western Michigan have offered since he entered the portal.
Jason’s take:
The Spartans look for depth at the linebacker position, with both Jacoby Windmon and Aaron Brule graduating after the 2023 season. Experienced linebackers Darius Snow and Cal Haladay will each enter their redshirt junior seasons, as Ma’a Gaoteote will enter his junior season as well. True freshman Jordan Hall also begins to get his feet wet. Redshirt freshman Quavian Carter remains with the program.
Miles O’Neill visiting
Michigan State will welcome class of 2024 quarterback Miles O’Neill for an unofficial visit on Tuesday (May 23). He will visit East Lansing after visiting Pittsburgh tomorrow (May 22). He will also visit Penn State on Wednesday (May 24). The Spartans offered the 6-foot-4, 220-pound quarterback of Princeton (N.J.) The Hun School on May 8. Texas A&M, Penn State, Virginia, Pittsburgh, and others have offered after Michigan State.
O’Neill threw for over 2,300 yards as a junior, completing 72.3% of his passes. He accounted for 28 total touchdowns, showing off his speed and strength in the run game with five rushing touchdowns. O’Neill played for Marblehead (Mass.) High School as a junior.
The 6-foot-5, 220-pound quarterback has a good frame, showing off his strong arm in the first clip of his junior highlight tape. O’Neill has no problem throwing the deep ball, but he can also plant his feet and make the intermediate throws look easy. He moves around in the well pocket, stepping up and throwing his receivers open.
