Nightly Recruiting Briefing: Michigan State setting the table for 2025

In tonight’s Michigan State Nightly Recruiting Briefing we will discuss who Michigan State is recruiting in the class of 2025, as August 1 marks the first date of contact between college coaches and rising juniors. We will also discuss an offer extended on the day, and more.

New offer

Michigan State offered class of 2025 offensive lineman Devin Harper, of Shreveport (LA) Captain Shreve on August 1. The 6-foot-5, 287-pound lineman is ranked a four-star, the No. 228 overall recruit. He is also ranked the No. 12 interior lineman, and the No. 8 recruit in Louisiana by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings.

Harper holds other offers from Georgia, LSU, Penn State, Florida State, Arkansas, and others. He has taken multiple visits to LSU, most recently in June. Michigan State and Chris Kapilovic will look for a visit in order to position themselves in this race.

2025 contact begins

As the contact period opens for the class of 2025, marking the first time college coaches are allowed to initiate contact with the class, Michigan State coaches stayed up past midnight in order to get a head start.

Four-star wide receiver LaMason Waller, of Hesperia (CA) Sultana High School, tells SpartanMag.com that Michigan State and wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins were “the first school” to reach out. Waller is ranked the No. 244 overall recruit, and the No. 37 wide receiver in his class. He is also ranked the No. 22 recruit in California by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings. His other offers include Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oregon, and many others.

The Spartans were also one of the first to reach out to four-star offensive lineman Kayden Strayhorn on Tuesday morning. The Michigan State legacy posted his graphic to social media. He is ranked the No. 313 overall recruit and the No. 18 overall interior offensive lineman. Strayhorn is also ranked the No. 46 recruit in Florida by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings.

Michigan State and Courtney Hawkins made sure to reach out to three-star wide receiver Kamren Flowers of West Bloomfield (MI) as well. Flowers is ranked the No. 330 overall recruit and the No. 43 wide receiver. He is also ranked the No. 4 recruit in Michigan by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings.

Jason’s take:

Michigan State likely reached out to over 100 recruits on Aug. 1 as the recruiting calendar only begins to switch over. The Spartans have already set the ground work for the class as some of the targets are brand new, and some have been in touch for months.

SpartanMag.com will continue to have updates as recruits will begin to plan their fall visits for games in the coming weeks.
