Nightly Recruiting Briefing: Michigan State offers transfer portal cornerback
In tonight’s Nightly Recruiting Briefing we will discuss the latest Michigan State transfer portal offer. We will also discuss the latest Spartan high school offers and more.
New Offers – Transfer Portal
Michigan State offered transfer portal cornerback Trey Amos. The former Louisiana standout was officially submitted on May 1. Amos has 59 career tackles, 14 pass defenses, 1 interception, and 2.5 tackles for a loss. Alabama, Oregon, Auburn, Miami (FL), Florida, LSU, Illinois, and Mississippi have all offered Amos since he entered the transfer portal on May 1.
Jason’s Take:
Michigan State entered the running for Amos less than 24 hours after current Spartan cornerback Charles Brantley entered his name in the transfer portal. Brantley announced on Tuesday that he would withdraw his name from the portal. I expect Michigan State will continue to pursue Amos due to his pure talent, but the need for another cornerback is not as high as it was without Brantley.
New Offers – 2025
Michigan State also offered 2025 running back Isaiah West of Philadelphia (PA) St. Joseph’s on May 1. West is not yet ranked by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings, but does hold offers from Penn State, West Virginia, Boston College, and more.
West was offered by Spartan running backs coach Effrem Reed.
“Coach Reed wanted see me in person,” West said. “He was mostly talking about their facilities and what they’re working on at Michigan State right now. It was dope, it sounds like they’re working up some big things right now.”
West tells SpartanMag.com he will “definitely” visit Michigan State this summer.
Michigan State and Effrem Reed also extended an offer to 2025 Georgia commit Jabree Coleman of Philadelphia (PA) Imhotep Institute on May 1. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound back committed to Georgia in July 2022 over offers from Penn State, Texas A&, Oregon, Michigan, Tennessee, and others.
Coleman is ranked a four-star, the No. 177 overall recruit, the No. 14 running back, and the No. 5 recruit in Pennsylvania by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings.
The third 2025 running back offer of the day came to Bud Coombs of Hyattsville (MD) DeMatha Catholic School. Michigan State joined Penn State, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, and more in offering the 5-foot-9, 170 pound back.
Coombs is ranked a three-star, the No. 342 overall recruit, the No. 28 running back, and the No. 12 recruit in Maryland by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings.
Jason’s Take:
Michigan State has offered 12 running backs in the 2025 recruiting class so far. West is more likely to schedule a visit to campus, with Coleman almost certainly being a hard recruit to flip. The Spartans were hoping to get a visit from 2025 four-star Bo Jackson from Cleveland, Ohio, but his high school baseball schedule interfered with the visit plans. The Spartans also recently offered four-star Deondrae ‘Tiger’ Riden and three-star Iverson Howard. The Spartans will push for summer visits from all six of the offered backs named above.
