Nightly Recruiting Briefing: Michigan State makes new top list

Justin Denson top list
Michigan State made the top 12 for class of 2024 three-star defensive back Justin Denson of Providence (RI) La Salle Academy on May 14. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder also included Texas A&M, Florida, Penn State, Miami (FL), Maryland, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Arkansas, South Carolina, Florida State, and Colorado. He visited Florida, Florida State, Arizona State, and others earlier this spring.
Denson will take an official visit to Michigan State on June 3, visiting East Lansing for the first time in January 2023, and again in April. The top 12 list came on Mothers Day, as his mother will play a role in Denson’s final decision.
“He talked to my mom the most,” Denson told SpartanMag.com about Mel Tucker. “I feel wanted. I know Michigan State is a place that really wants me. My mom likes Coach Tucker. She loves it. If it was up to my mom, I would go there. She really likes the coaches and they are always nice to her, calling her.”
Jason’s take:
Michigan State got in the recruitment early, offering in January, at the time Penn State was the only offer of the 12 remaining schools. Getting in early allowed the Spartans to get multiple unofficial visits, now looking to close the deal on the official visit.
Denson has not announced an official commitment timeline, but a decision could come in the summer after official visits. With his mother’s support, Michigan State has positioned themselves well going into the summer in what is a busy recruitment.
