Nightly Recruiting Briefing: Michigan State coaches visiting top 2024 and 2025 targets

Nightly Recruiting Briefing: Michigan State coaches visiting top 2024 and 2025 targets

In tonight’s Nightly Recruiting Briefing we will discuss the newest Michigan State offer. We will also discuss coaches on the road and more recruiting buzz.

New offer- 2025

Michigan State offered class of 2025 offensive tackle Jaelyne Matthews of Toms River (NJ) North on May 18. The four-star tackle is currently committed to fellow Big Ten foe Penn State. At 6-foot-5, 273-pounds, Matthews is ranked the No. 62 overall recruit. He is also ranked the No. 7 offensive tackle and the No. 1 recruit in New Jersey by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings. His other offers include Georgia, Ohio State, Miami (FL), Tennessee, Florida, and more.

Jason’s take:

Michigan State along with the nations top schools will all be looking to flip the early Penn State commitment. It is a long way to signing day for the class of 2025. The Spartans will have nearly two years to push for a future visit.

The Spartans have currently offered seven offensive tackles in the 2025 class, Matthews being the highest ranked out of the early group. Michigan State also recently offered Owen Strebig (6-7, 295), who is ranked the No. 107 overall recruit, the No. 10 tackle, and the No. 1 recruit in Wisconsin by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings. Toledo (OH) Whitmer offensive tackle Carter Lowe is another four-star tackle offer in the 2025 class. Lowe visited Michigan State earlier this spring.

Coaches on the road

Michigan State special teams coordinator Ross Els visited La Verne (CA) Bonita School on May 18. The school is home to four-star class of 2025 linebacker Noah Mikhail. The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder is ranked a four-star, the No. 47 overall recruit, the No. 6 linebacker, and the No. 7 recruit in California by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings.

The four-star, top100 recruit holds offers from Alabama, Georgia, Southern California, Oregon, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, and many more. He took a Midwest swing visiting Michigan, Ohio State, and Notre Dame among others earlier this spring.

Michigan State defensive line coach Diron Reynolds stopped in Mead (OK) C4Sports Performance, home of 2024 four-star Xadavien Sims and 2023 four-star defensive line signee Bai Jobe. C4 will continue to be an important stop for Michigan State, who is also looking to secure an official visit with Sims for June.

The four-star currently has a top five also including Oklahoma, TCU, Vanderbilt, and Oregon. He will announce his final decision on May 20, and I do not expect it to be Michigan State at this time. The recruitment is not over as Sims has already scheduled two official visits for June to TCU and Vanderbit.

Sims is ranked a four-star, the No. 200 overall recruit, the No. 22 defensive lineman, and the No. 2 recruit in Oklahoma by the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings.
