Xavier Newsom to camp in June

Michigan State will host on campus high school camps on June 14 and again on June 21. Class of 2025 tight end/defensive lineman Xavier Newsom of Detroit (MI) Martin Luther King High School tells SpartanMag.com he plans to camp with Michigan State in hopes of earning an offer.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder holds offers from Michigan, Penn State, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Central Michigan, and Toledo. Newsom is ranked the No. 265 overall recruit, the No. 10 tight end in the class, and the No.4 recruit in Michigan by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings.

Jason’s take:

Newsom holds a strong offer list, as he continues to grow into his 6-foot-5, 220-pound frame. The Spartans will likely join the offer lost with a solid camp performance in June.

Earning the nickname ”tree” at King High School, Newsom has a long frame to pair with his natural athleticism. Depending on how much weight he puts on, Newsom has shown the size and frame to play both defensive end and tight end.

The Spartans are still constructing their recruiting board in the 2025 class at both defensive end and tight end as Michigan State gets the chance to look at him in person.

Michigan State secondary coach Harlon Barnett and wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins both scouted Newsom earlier this month, at his school during the college showcase event featuring a large majority of power five coaches.
