Nightly Recruiting Briefing (4/19/23)

In tonight’s Nightly Recruiting Briefing we will discuss the latest Michigan State offer. We will also discuss a recruits top list and more Spartan social media.

New 2024 offer

Michigan State cornerbacks coach Jim Salgado extended a new offer to class of 2024 defensive back Marcellus Barnes Jr. of Chatanooga (TN) McCallie School. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound cornerback is ranked a four-star, the No. 341 overall recruit, the No. 35 cornerback, and the No. 7 recruit in Tennessee by the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings.

Barnes holds other offers from Georgia, Florida State, Mississippi, Minnesota, Baylor, and more. He visited Ole Miss and Mississippi State earlier this spring for practice. He also visited Notre Dame and Georgia in March.

Spartans make Philadelphia (PA) DB top list

Michigan State made the top five for Philadelphia (PA) Northeast School safety Khamir Prescott on April 19, who was also offered by Jim Salgado. The 6-foot, 197-pound safety also included Penn State, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, and Nebraska. He visited Penn State earlier this spring. Prescott tells SpartanMag.com he plans to visit Michigan State this summer.

Prescott is ranked a three-star, the No. 613 overall recruit, the No. 61 safety, and the No. 19 recruit in Pennsylvania by the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings. On3 ranks Prescott a four-star, the No. 32 safety, and the No. 7 recruit in Pennsylvania. He did not include offers such as Colorado, Texas A&M, Maryland, Cincinnati, and others.

Mahki Frazier visit pics

The Spartans welcomed three-star running back Mahki Frazier of McKinney (TX) High School on April 15 for spring practice on his first visit to Michigan State. Frazier is listed as a linebacker, but Michigan State running backs coach Effrem Reed is recruiting the three-star on the offensive side of the ball.

The 5-foot-11, 210-pounder holds other offers from Arkansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Oregon State and others. He will visit Oregon State this upcoming weekend (April 22).
