NFL insider reveals latest on Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes, adds surprise twist

Aaron Rodgers still has no decision on where he’ll sign as a free agent. Ian Rapoport was still unsure as well with him seeing everything as an option for him as of now.

Rapoport gave the latest he had on Rodgers while on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ on Friday. If anything, he actually hoped their show could help him end up with news straight from the source himself on where he might be signing.

“Alright, so, I’m not perturbed. Um, I, I never, you know – I don’t mind talking about Aaron Rodgers. I’ve done it for the last, like, five years forever…I’m good with Aaron Rodgers,” said Rapoport. “I also, like, you know – would I like everything wrapped up in a nice little bow – someone sends me the scoop, I tweet it, and that’s the end? Like, that would be the ideal situation for me. Like, let’s try to make that happen.”

“I mean, I’m just saying, like, Aaron Rodgers is a friend of the program. If he’s watching this now, he might go, ‘You know what? I’m going to send it to him’ and then that would really be great for me,” Rapoport joked.

As for his status as a free agent since the New York Jets cut him, a handful of teams have been in connection with Rodgers over the past month. In the last week or so, that has included a list of the New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, and Pittsburgh Steelers with reporting earlier in the week that the Steelers were even nearing a deal with him. However, there’s been nothing much since around the NFL.

Because of that, Rapoport also still isn’t ruling out retirement as an option for Rodgers. He thinks all those teams could have pros for him but, if not, calling it career could still be a possibility.

“You know, I wanted to say something about that because you said that to me a couple days ago. You were like, ‘Well, are you saying he’s playing?’ and I was kind of like yeah, yeah, yeah. But, like, I am also kind of not 100% sure, right,” Rapoport said. “Like, if he – I think these are some decent, pretty good options. Um, I could make a case for the Giants, I could make a case for the Steelers. You know, I know we’ve talked about that he likes Minnesota if that. I don’t know about that one but, if that ends up being the one, I could certainly make that case. But, if he doesn’t like them, if he’s not 100% committed then he should definitely not do it. And so like, to me, retirement, to me, should still be a consideration.”

“I just, I don’t know that anything has been ruled out now,” said Rapoport.

There’s still no decision on where, or if, Rodgers will play next season in the NFL. That leaves a lot to consider still for him and for teams as he’s currently still available with this now having potential to draw out until as far as the NFL Draft.
