Newsstand: Where Notre Dame’s 2024 class stands in the Industry Ranking Football Team Recruiting Rankings

Newsstand: Where Notre Dame’s 2024 class stands in the Industry Ranking Football Team Recruiting Rankings

Fourth of July weekend is a hot time of the year for high school football recruiting commitments … and apparently … decommitments. On Saturday, Notre Dame lost four-star wide receiver Isiah Canion from Warner Robins (Ga.) High, after he backed off his two-month-long pledge.

On Saturday and Sunday combined, about 50 prospects announced where they intend to continue their football careers. Meanwhile, a few programs moved up and down On3’s 2024 Industry Ranking Football Team Recruiting Rankings.

Here’s where the Fighting Irish stand in it coming out of the weekend.

Notre Dame ranks No. 7 with a score of 91.173. That trails Georgia (94.375), Ohio State (93.549), Florida (92.604), Alabama (91.884), Southern California (91.619) and Michigan (91.530).

The On3 Industry Ranking Football Team Recruiting Rankings compiles the highest-rated commits for each team up to a total based on a rolling average of current total commitments among Power Five schools.

The current average number of commits used in the rankings score is 13. Of Notre Dame’s 20 commitments, only the 13 highest-ranked players are used for the rankings score.

With this model, there are no bonus points for having more commitments than other teams, and only small deductions occur when a team has fewer commitments than the rolling average.

Unlike distribution (bell) curves, this model doesn’t disproportionately weight a team’s top three or four highest-rated commits and is a more accurate representation of an entire class.

The Irish still have the edge on Clemson (90.909), Oregon (90.842) and Penn State (90.819).

Notre Dame’s average star rating — different from its team score — is 89.98. That ranks eighth behind Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Florida, Clemson, USC and Auburn.

Notre Dame Quote of the Weekend

“The facilities were great. The indoor was nice. It was just a good place to be around. You can feel it when you’re there. It’s just a calm, quiet place. But when you get on the field with them, it changes. The intensity was there with the coaching staff. I felt it. They liked what they were doing and liked the players there.”

— 2025 four-star cornerback Jayden Gloston from Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab on his time at Notre Dame.
