Newsstand: What is the spread for the Notre Dame vs. Army football game?

Newsstand: What is the spread for the Notre Dame vs. Army football game?

The Notre Dame football program is in for a tougher test than the one they faced last Saturday, according to oddsmakers.

Circa Sports released their opening lines for Week 13 of the college football season on Sunday. The No. 6 Fighting Irish (9-1) opened as a 16-point favorite against Army (9-0) for this Saturday’s game at Yankee Stadium. The over/under points total is 45½.

Versus Virginia in Week 12, the Irish opened as a 21-point favorite. By kickoff, it was 20.5½. As a result, Notre Dame has effectively covered the spread in six straight games. Although the under hit against the Cavaliers, the Irish have gone “over” the points total five times this season.

Army is 7-2 against the spread. However, the two times the Black Knights did not cover the spread occurred within their last three games. The over has hit in five of their nine outings.

This Saturday’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. The annual “Shamrock Series” game will be televised on NBC.

Notre Dame Quote of the Weekend

“It’s not easy. There are a lot of people that go into me stepping on the field 63 times. The trainers, family, teammates, strength coaches, coaches in general — there’s a lot of people that play into that. That’s the best thing about this record. It’s not a me thing. It’s a we thing.”

— Irish graduate student linebacker Jack Kiser on setting the Notre Dame football program record on Saturday for most games played with 63.
