Newsstand: Two 2024 Notre Dame men’s basketball targets visiting this week

Class of 2024 Notre Dame men’s basketball target Daquan Davis, a point guard from Baltimore (Md.) St. John’s, is began a three-day visit to South Bend on Monday.

Davis is the No. 120 player in the On3 industry ranking.

According to On3 national recruiting expert Joe Tipton, Davis is deciding between Mississippi State, Maryland, Providence and Notre Dame. He set his recruitment date for June 25.

“Coach (Micah) Shrewsberry has always been an amazing guy that made it clear he wanted me to be his point guard since he was at Penn State,” Davis told Tipton. “He made it a priority to get me on campus and stay in contact with me so I would know he’s very serious about me, along with other coaches on the staff.”

Additionally, Jackson McAndrew, a class of 2024 power forward from Minneapolis (Minn.) Wayzata, is set to visit South Bend on Sunday and Monday. McAndrew a consensus four-star prospect, coming in at No. 78 in the On3 Industry Ranking, but On3 itself has him at No. 48.

McAndrew is currently in Cincinnati, visiting Xavier. The Musketeers are among the Irish’s top competition for McAndrew, along with Wisconsin and Creighton. He also has offers from Iowa, Penn State and Nebraska, among others.

McAndrew told On3 national basketball recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw in May that he enjoyed his visits to Wisconsin and Creighton, which he took last month. He also spoke highly of Shrewsberry.

“I really like what Coach Shrewsberry and the rest of the coaching staff are doing,” McAndrew told Shaw. “I think they are taking it in a really good direction.”

Blue & Gold will have more on McAndrew’s recruitment after his visit. The Irish have one commitment in the 2024 class: three-star shooting guard Cole Certa.

Quote of the day

“He busts his butt. He works his tail off. He’s always working out and doing stuff on his own. … His speed is pretty good, but I’m never going to stop pushing him. In his mind, he knows he can get better as well.”
