Newsstand: Top-35 center Malachi Moreno includes Notre Dame in top eight

Georgetown (Ky.) Great Crossing center Malachi Moreno, significant 2025 Notre Dame men’s basketball target, has the Irish in his top eight.

The 7-foot, 210-pound center is the No. 32 player and No. 1 center in the On3 Industry Ranking, and he’s the No. 16 player in the On3 150. He’s considering the Irish alongside Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina and Ohio State, according to On3 national basketball reporter Joe Tipton.

“I’m going to be looking for a place where I can grow my faith,” Moreno told Tipton. “Grow as a player, grow as a person, and be in a family-type environment. I like versatility, but, at the end of the day, I just want to win. Making sure my team has more points on the board than the other team. Whatever I need to do to make that happen, that’s what I want to do.”

According to Tipton, keeping Moreno home is a priority for Kentucky. The Wildcats, under first-year head coach Mark Pope, are in strong position for Moreno’s services. Tipton also said Indiana likely sits near the top of his list as well.

Moreno unofficially visited South Bend in September, but he does not have any official visits scheduled at the moment. He also has no time frame for a commitment.

Big-time Notre Dame wide receiver target:

Dekaney’s Tanook Hines is bound for a monster senior season. Missed half of his junior year, and was still dominant on tape. Impressive strength & balance after the catch.

Quote of the day

“It’s become more like football and basketball, where everything is cutthroat. Stealing everybody’s players and recruits. It’s just not what it used to be, and it’s disappointing, but more importantly, I worry about the future of college hockey in that regard.”
