Texas A&M will likely be without one of its top up-and-comers on offense when it kicks off the season against Notre Dame on Aug. 31.
On Sunday, On3’s Pete Nakos reported that sophomore running back Reuben Owens underwent testing for a lower-body injury that he suffered in a scrimmage on Saturday. ESPN’s Max Olson and Pete Thamel added further informatiton by reporting that Owens is expected to miss the season as a result of the injury.
Aggies coach Mike Elko would only comfirm the injury, but not the severity of it, in a statement.
“Rueben Owens suffered a lower leg injury in our scrimmage on Saturday (Aug. 10),” he said. “I will address his injury at my next media availability.”
A product of El Campo (Texas) High, Owens played in all 13 games and started five as a freshman last season. He earned SEC All-Freshman team honors after leading the league among all true freshmen in all-purpose yards (743), rushing yards (385) and kick return yards (249).
