Newsstand: PFF views Notre Dame’s Joe Alt highly headed into 2023 season

Newsstand: PFF views Notre Dame’s Joe Alt highly headed into 2023 season

Pro Football Focus (PFF) has been coming out with their top-10 lists per position during the dog days of the offseason, and a Notre Dame player received major honors.

Rising junior offensive tackle Joe Alt was listed as the No. 1 overall returning offensive tackle in the country. It should come as no surprise, really. Alt has been fantastic through two years in South Bend, and with his size, experience and pedigree, the 6-8, 315-pounder has all the makings of a future first-round NFL Draft selection.

Alt’s 2022 season was incredible. He was named an All-American first-team performer by the Associated Press, PFF, ESPN, CBS, Action Network and Sporting News. He started all 13 games last fall and has been in the starting lineup at left tackle for 21 consecutive on the Irish offensive line.

His father, John, played on the offensive line at Iowa, and was a first round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 1984. The elder Alt was a two-time Pro Bowl selection, and was inducted into the Chiefs Hall of Fame in 2002.

In an article last week, PFF listed Alt as going No. 3 in a way-too-early NFL mock draft.

Quote of the day

“It’s a special school. Something my dad has told me a lot is how much they emphasize ‘four for 40.’ When you go to Notre Dame, it impacts you for the rest of your life. That’s something different than a lot of other schools — the caliber of academics there. That stands out to me a lot.”

— 2025 wide receiver Jerome Bettis Jr. on Notre Dame
