Newsstand: Pair of former Notre Dame linemen sign new NFL contracts

Notre Dame signed a strong offensive line class in the 2017 cycle, headlined by a couple of players who signed new NFL contracts on Monday, March 10.

After four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, offensive guard Aaron Banks is headed to the Green Bay after signing a four-year, $77 million deal with the Packers according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Across 2,586 snaps as a pro, Banks has given up just two sacks and 16 penalties, per Pro Football Focus (PFF). He was drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft after a superb Notre Dame career.

Banks appeared in 38 games (31 starts) in four years in South Bend. As a senior in 2020, Banks started all 12 games, including an appearance in the CFP Semifinal. He was named First-Team AFCA All- America and Associated Press First-Team All-America.

Former Fighting Irish offensive lineman Robert Hainsey is on the move as well. He’s staying in the Sunshine State though following four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Hainsey signed a three-year, $21 million contract to become the Jacksonville Jaguars’ new center.

Hainsey started 34-of-46 games during his Notre Dame career. As a senior in 2020, Hainsey was named Team Captain, Senior Class first-team All-American and second-team All-ACC, while finishing as a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award and was part of an offensive line that finished as a finalist for the Joe Moore Award, given annually to the Most Outstanding Offensive Line Unit.

On Saturday, the Ravens announced they re-signed former Notre Dame football consensus All-America offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley, their No. 6 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. According to Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Stanley’s deal is three years worth $60 million. It includes $44 million guaranteed.

Quote of the day

“I’ve always had interest growing up. I know everybody has because Notre Dame is a blue blood of college football. So, I really wanted to get out there to see Notre Dame. That’s what pushed me to get out there. When I was at the camp, I loved every moment of being able to compete in front of all those guys.”
