Newsstand: Notre Dame no longer in the running for top-five men’s basketball prospect
Notre Dame is no longer in the running for Nate Ament, the No. 4 men’s basketball prospect in the class of 2025. Ament announced his top five Tuesday, and the Irish missed the cut.
Ament, a 6-foot-9 small forward from Warrenton (Va.) Highland School, will decide between Arkansas, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville and Tennessee. The Blue Devils are considered the favorite, with the Cardinals not far behind.
Ament officially visited Notre Dame in the fall. He gave head coach Micah Shrewsberry and the Irish a close look, but he’ll ultimately go in a different direction.
“I was at USA with Coach Shrews, so that relationship has been great,” Ament told On3’s Jamie Shaw. “You know, he’s an NBA mind and he thinks that I’m an NBA player. He also knows that I have a lot to improve on. So just hearing that from him, and his plan, from someone that has been in the NBA, that means a lot. Of course, I’ve gotten to know him over the summer and we’re just continuing to grow our relationship now.”
With Ament’s recruitment reaching a resolution as far as the Irish are concerned, Notre Dame’s 2025 signing class is complete. Shrewsberry will add the No. 13 class in the country next season, which includes guards Jalen Haralson and Ryder Frost, forward Brady Koehler and center Tommy Ahneman.
They’ll have to make an immediate impact for a program that sits at 12-15 (6-10 Atlantic Coast Conference) entering Wednesday night’s matchup at Clemson.
