Newsstand: Notre Dame has best chance of winning out per ESPN FPI

Nobody in college football has a better chance of winning all of its remaining games than the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI).

The FPI is giving the Irish a 21.6 percent chance of finishing the regular season 12-0.

According to ESPN, the FPI is “a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season.” The actual FPI decimal figure indicates how many points above or below average a team is.

Currently, Georgia is No. 1 in FPI with a score of 29.6. The Irish are sixth behind the Bulldogs, Alabama, Texas, Ohio State and Penn State. The highest chance any of those teams has of winning the rest of its regular season games, though, is Penn State. Strength of schedule is a key determining factor in those percentages.
