Newsstand: Moe Wagner signs new free agent deal

Former Michigan Wolverines basketball star forward Moritz Wagner agreed to a new NBA free-agent deal over the weekend. The former U-M standout is heading back to the Orlando Magic on a two-year, $16 million deal that was first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Wagner was a reserve with the Magic last season, averaging 10.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in 57 contests, averaging 19.5 minutes a night. During his time in Ann Arbor, Wagner became the 54th Wolverine to score more than 1,000 point sin a career and led the program to three-straight NCAA Tournament berths, including a national-runner-up finish during the 2018 season.
Wagner’s return to the Magic fortifies a team that has taken on increasing maize and blue flavor over the last few years. His younger brother, Franz Wagner, was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Caleb Houstan joined the franchise as a second-round pick in 2022, while Jett Howard was a first-round pick in the recently-held 2023 NBA Draft.
As the elder statesmen, Moe Wagner has been a tone-setter for the Magic in recent seasons.
“It makes everyone on the team happy because you see how hard he works and the energy that he brings into the building, even if he’s injured and sitting on the bench sometimes,” Franz Wagner said, via Sports Illustrated. “He brings that energy and it gives everybody a huge spark.”

Michigan quote of the day
“I absolutely love this from Jim Harbaugh. I absolutely love this because, what it is to me, is Jim Harbaugh very, very clearly laying out for his football team, that they are embracing all the pressure and everything that the mission is going to require for them in 2023. They’re not tiptoeing around their goals. What does it take to win the national title? Probably beating someone from the SEC. Who’s the big dog in college football right now? The last two years, Georgia. Okay, what’s our goal? Win a national title? Sounds like we got to go through Georgia to get there. I love that, man.”
