Newsstand: Michigan safety Rod Moore has ‘good eyes’ in the secondary

Tweets Of The Day

Michigan junior safety Rod Moore led the team in interceptions last season. He’s on the radar as an NFL Draft prospect and is hoping to put himself in position to achieve that dream. He changed his jersey number from 19 to 9 this season and explained the reasoning with The Wolverine in an exclusive interview.

“I’ve always rocked with [quarterback] J.J. [McCarthy], and now — I don’t know if you know — but now I’m No. 9, so we’re going to be wearing the same number, so it’s gonna be turnt,” Moore said.

Added Moore, when asked to explain the decision: “Ah, I just wanted to wear a single digit for potentially my last year. I mean, 19 was cool, but as a safety …”

Michigan wide receiver Roman Wilson scored 3 touchdowns in the first two games of last season. He came up huge with 2 scores in the Fiesta Bowl against TCU, too, and had a pair of touchdowns in a gritty, 21-17 win at Penn State in 2021.

Quote Of The Day

“The first thing that jumps out is that he changed his jumper. It’s not as long. His foul shot is not as long. He’s had success this July and August, so he’s got to continue, and we do need him. When you look around and say who has the most experience, he has the most experience. And it’s different experience than Dug McDaniel and Tarris Reed, because he won and played in really big games. He won the Tennessee game in the NCAA Tournament. So, T-Will has had a really good summer.”

— Michigan associate head coach Phil Martelli on the ‘Defend The Block podcast,’ discussing senior forward Terrance Williams II
