Newsstand: Michigan loses top-rated commit to SEC school

Michigan football lost a commitment from its top-rated pledge, four-star defensive lineman Nate Marshall, who flipped to Auburn Friday. Marshall is the No. 56 overall recruit in the 2025 class, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He hails from Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick.

Marshall originally committed to Michigan in April but made a visit to Auburn later in the offseason. The threat of the Tigers remained throughout the summer. However, Michigan felt like it took a big step forward when it hosted Marshall for the BBQ at The Big House late last month.
Marshall, himself, reiterated his commitment following the visit.
“The visit was great,” Marshall told The Wolverine. “Vibes are still the same, which was good. Highlight would have to be getting to know the other recruits (and) prospects and getting them on board to be a Michigan Man along with me. The weekend was a fun time. Enjoyed it.”
Auburn continued to work on Marshall behind the scenes and was able to steal him away before the start of the season.
Marshall was a bit of tweener with the flexibility to play EDGE or defensive line at the next level. Michigan will look to replace Marshall by adding at least one more defensive line recruit this cycle.
At 6-foot-4, 265 pounds, Marshall is ranked as the No. 5 defensive lineman and No. 56 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 3 overall recruit in the state of Illinois this cycle.
The Michigan football team is winding down fall camp practices, with game week coming soon. There’s one week until the Maize and Blue kick off the season against Fresno State (Aug. 31 at Michigan Stadium). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET next Saturday.
