Newsstand: Michigan LB Jaishawn Barham not listed as declaring for 2025 NFL Draft

There were no surprises for Michigan when the NFL’s list of the players granted special eligibility for the 2025 NFL Draft was released Thursday. There were four Wolverines who were named: tight end Colston Loveland, cornerback Will Johnson and defensive tackles Kenneth Grant and Mason Graham.
Not listed was junior linebacker Jaishawn Barham, who had yet to make an announcement on his future. This indicates that he will indeed stay at Michigan, at least for next semester, since the NCAA transfer portal is now closed for U-M undergraduate football players.
Barham was second on the Michigan team with 66 tackles, adding 1 sack, in 2024.
Ohio State defensive end Jack Sawyer, who’s 0-4 against Michigan, is set to play for the national championship but is still embarrassed about being humiliated by U-M four straight seasons, including Nov. 30.
“The amount of s*** that Coach has taken on our behalf is insane,” Sawyer wrote in The Players Tribune on Jan. 16. “I remember he was telling us about how, after one of our losses to The Team Up North, he had to take his son and his daughters out of school — because not only were kids saying stuff about them and their dad and how they need to leave town and they’re not welcome here, but actual teachers were as well.
“Hearing that made us so angry. But I also think a reason that stuff has been able to happen, it’s because of how high Coach’s character is. He refuses to hang his players out to dry. In the good times, he wants the spotlight on us. In the bad times, he wants the spotlight on himself. And it’s definitely unacceptable, the amount of toxic bulls*** he’s had to deal with over the years.”
Former Michigan head coach John Beilein has high praise for the current Wolverines.
