Newsstand: Former Notre Dame OC/QB Tommy Rees named candidate for NFL position

Newsstand: Former Notre Dame OC/QB Tommy Rees named candidate for NFL position

Former Notre Dame football offensive coordinator and quarterback Tommy Rees might have his next job lined up.

On Sunday, after the New England Patriots announced the hiring of Mike Vrabel as head coach, Patriots.com senior reporter Evan Lazar named Rees one of five candidates to be Vrabel’s offensive coordinator.

Rees and Vrabel were on the Cleveland Browns coaching staff for the 2024 season. Rees was a passing game specialist and tight ends coach, and Vrabel was the head coach’s special assistant.

Earlier this month, the Browns interviewed Rees for their vacant offensive coordinator position. He also finished as a finalist for the head coaching job at North Carolina.

Notre Dame Posts of the Weekend

On Sunday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero named Irish coach Marcus Freeman a head coaching candidate for the Chicago Bears.

Marcus Freeman to @HannahStormESPN on Jan. 4 about being an NFL coaching candidate:

“I don’t know when they announced it, I can’t remember, but about a week or two ago, they announced another long contract here at Notre Dame. So, I don’t think we have anything to worry about.”

Irish sophomore Charles Jagusah might start a game at left tackle this season after all.

To recap: Notre Dame lost its starting left tackle in August. It lost its other starting left tackle in January, but he might be replaced by the first starting left tackle after he came back and balled out at right guard.

Other than that, normal season. https://t.co/MuJXeZ1Ho5
