Newsstand: Former Notre Dame LB retires from football

Newsstand: Former Notre Dame LB retires from football

Ex-Notre Dame linebacker Bo Bauer has hung up the cleats. After testing the NFL waters for the past couple years, the Harborcreek (Pa.) Cathedral Prep class of 2018 four-star linebacker announced his retirement from football on Monday afternoon.

“Thank you, Football,” Bauer wrote on Instagram.

“For the past 16 years, this game has been my life and has shaped me into the man I am today. Following a second season-ending knee injury, I have made the tough decision to medically retire from the sport.”

“I am deeply thankful to everyone who has been part of my journey. It has been a tremendous honor to play alongside so many incredible individuals.”

After going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, Bauer participated in the Seattle Seahawks’ rookie minicamp last spring. However, he did not make the Seahawks roster. He kept working at it, participated in Notre Dame’s pro day in March and signed a deal with the Washington Commanders. However, another injury forced him into retirement.

In five years with the Irish, Bauer appeared in 56 games and amassed 120 tackles, 70 of which were solo. He also had 11 TFL, 2.5 sacks, 8 passes defensed and 2 interceptions. His graduate student season in 2022 was cut short due to a knee injury.

Bauer played for the Fighting Irish from 2018-22.

Notre Dame tweets of the day

ESPN’s Kris Budden just said FSU head coach Mike Norvell isn’t a fan of the new sideline iPads.

Marcus Freeman, though, embraces them.

“Those iPads were key,” Freeman said. “Those iPads really helped with getting the players to see the adjustments that we have to make.” pic.twitter.com/jYQKTKesDz

Quote of the day

“It goes back to watching the film with a critical eye. You can’t let the emotions of a victory or a defeat affect the way you evaluate what you need to do to improve. We have to believe that our preparation is the key to us having success on Saturdays and that’s what we’ll continue to rely on. The, ‘Hey, let’s evaluate the film, really understand and own the mistakes that we’ve made as coaches and players and then come up with a process to fix it and go attack it on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and then we get a chance to go out and play on Saturday.’ So, we have to prepare and we have to have a critical eye.”
