Newsstand: ESPN includes Notre Dame CB Benjamin Morrison in latest NFL mock draft

Newsstand: ESPN includes Notre Dame CB Benjamin Morrison in latest NFL mock draft

Despite his season-ending hip injury, Notre Dame junior cornerback Benjamin Morrison’s NFL Draft stock should not take too much of a hit. At least that’s what ESPN NFL draft analyst Matt Miller suggests in his latest mock draft

On Thursday, Miller projected the Washington Commanders to select Morrison with the No. 22 overall pick.

“Morrison, my second-ranked CB, was sidelined for the season in mid-October because of a hip injury, but he has good size (6-foot, 196 pounds), speed and instincts playing the ball,” Miller said, “as evidenced by nine interceptions over his first two seasons.”

Before the season, Morrison was routinely talked about as a potential first-round NFL Draft choice. However, his hip injury questioned whether he could still hear his name called on Day 1. Miller tapped Morrison with 10 picks to spare.

Colorado’s Travis Hunter (No. 2 to the Cleveland Browns) and Michigan’s Will Johnson (No. 6 to the New England Patriots) are the only cornerbacks Miller has drafted ahead of Morrison. Hunter could also play wide receiver in the NFL.

The Irish have an outstanding record when facing service academies.

Dating back to 1978, Notre Dame is 47-1 vs service academies when favored by at least 14 points. The lone loss came in 1996 when Air Force beat the Irish as a 21-point dog. Since them, seven of 23 such games have been decided by a TD or less…
