Newsstand: Bryce Underwood ‘enjoying’ early days at Michigan, says it’s a ‘blessing to be here’

Tweets Of The Day

Michigan freshman early enrollee quarterback Bryce Underwood joined WXYZ’s Brad Galli for an interview this week, discussing joining the Wolverines and more.

“I’m enjoying it, really, Underwood said. “It’s just life, you know? Life moving faster than what I thought, but it’s just a blessing to be here.”

Underwood is the No. 1 overall recruit, not just the top-rated quarterback, in the 2025 class, and with that comes a spotlight. However, he hasn’t been overwhelmed by that pressure.

“Honestly, I put myself into it, so really all I gotta do is prepare the same way, honestly, the same way I have the last four years, the last 10 years,” he said.

Nothing has changed for Michigan’s game against Indiana, but Hoosiers head coach Mike Woodson appears to be set to step down following this season. Woodson is in his fourth year with his alma mater.

More on Woodson from ESPN.com:

Woodson, 66, is expected to coach the rest of the year, sources said, but he and the Hoosiers are in discussions about the coach’s wishes to step away after this season. The details of the exit are being discussed.

The Hoosiers are heading toward their second consecutive season without an NCAA tournament appearance, losing four straight games and six of their past seven.

While the financial terms of Woodson’s exit are not clear, his contract calls for him to be paid more than $8 million if he’s fired. His contract allows for the buyout to be paid in annual million-dollar lump sums, which makes it more manageable for the school from a budgetary standpoint.

Indiana and men’s basketball coach Mike Woodson are in discussions about the coach’s wishes to step away at the end of 2024-25, sources tell @jeffborzello and @PeteThamel.

He’s expected to coach the rest of the year, but is unlikely to return.

Quote Of The Day

“It wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t anywhere where it’s going to need to be to win the championships we’re trying to win, but I do think we competed and fought at a championship level.”
