Newsstand: Big Ten gives small update on game time for Notre Dame vs. USC

Newsstand: Big Ten gives small update on game time for Notre Dame vs. USC

Well, we know that Notre Dame won’t play at 9 a.m. PT next Saturday when it travels to Los Angeles to face the USC Trojans. But otherwise, the game time is up in the air.

The Big Ten announced Monday afternoon that the Battle for the Jeweled Shillelagh will have a start time of 3:30 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. ET or 7:30 p.m. ET. According to the conference, the game between Trojans and Fighting Irish is one of three games that is being held as a “six-day selection.”

In other words, it’s expected that the game time for the matchup will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 24.

Which network the game will be played on is also to be determined.

If Notre Dame plays in one of the eastern time night slots, it’ll mark three out of the previous four weeks that the Irish will have played in primetime. The Fighting Irish did so when they blew out Florida State at the beginning of the month, and Notre Dame has a top-25 showdown in New York this Saturday against Army.

Notre Dame will have a new College Football Playoff ranking when the selection committee gives its update on Tuesday evening. It would be ideal if the CFP rankings mirror what the Coaches Poll and Associated Press Poll had Sunday, which listed Notre Dame as the No. 6 team in the country.

Quote of the day

“It’s all decision-making. Again, Riley wasn’t put in great situations in some of those third downs to have success. I love that he did keep his eyes downfield. That’s been something we’ve been talking about. Riley always knows he can escape and run. I’m really proud of the way he kept his eyes downfield as he escaped the pocket to throw the ball. Made some really good decisions that way.

“We know that he can run. We’re going to continue to encourage him to keep his eyes downfield because when defenses know you can run, guess what, the minute you start scrambling those guys usually tend to come up and then there is somebody open down the field. If we can utilize him both we will.”
