Newsstand: 2024 Notre Dame MBB target Jackson McAndrew chooses Creighton

Notre Dame men’s basketball target and class of 2024 power forward Jackson McAndrew committed to Creighton on Tuesday, he told On3 national recruiting expert Joe Tipton.

McAndrew, the No. 83 player and No. 13 power forward in the On3 Industry Ranking, chose the Bluejays over Notre Dame, Wisconsin and Xavier. On3 is much higher on McAndrew than the other recruiting services, rating him as the No. 48 player and No. 7 power forward in the 2024 class.

“I chose Creighton because of the coaching staff,” McAndrew told Tipton. “I have a really good relationship with all of them. (The) play style, I feel like it will be a perfect fit. Also, the player development as I think they can help me get to where I want to ultimately be.”

With the hot-shooting Minneapolis Wayzata big man off the board, Irish coach Micah Shrewsberry will look elsewhere to fill out his class of 2024. Charlotte (N.C.) Myers Park guard/forward Sir Mohammed, the No. 67 player in the On3 Industry Ranking, visited South Bend in June. Four-star Los Angeles Harvard Westlake point guard Trent Perry, according to 24/7 High School Hoops, will visit starting Sept. 1.

Additionally, Concord (N.C.) Cannon School shooting guard Austin Swartz recently included the Irish in his top eight.

Quote of the day

“He’s an incredibly fast processor, and it correlates to the way he plays. The Vyper position, because the jobs are more [complex], you have to be able to see the bigger picture. I think that linebacker background helps. At linebacker you’re the center of the universe. You have to know the front and the back. Him having that background helps him. But he’s highly intelligent. One of the fastest processors I’ve been around.”
