New On3 RPM pick for LSU

The LSU football staff was busy this weekend hosting six official visitors in Baton Rouge, as well as a handful of unofficial visitors.
With recruits set to head home on Sunday, I’ve made a new On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) pick for the Tigers.
Here’s the latest buzz I’m hearing out of the LSU campus.
LSU the team to beat for Jelani Watkins
On Sunday morning, I entered an On3 RPM pick for LSU to land Texas four-star wide receiver Jelani Watkins.
Watkins checks in as the No. 190 overall prospect on the On3 Industry Rankings as the No. 31 wide receiver prospect in the class ahead of his senior season at Klein Forest this fall.
Following an official visit weekend in Baton Rouge, it’s clear the Tigers are the team out front and are closing in on getting Watkins into the 2024 class.
LSU wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton has led the way in recruiting Watkins, but there’s also some Louisiana connections in play here that are benefitting the Tigers.
Watkins and his family are from LaPlace, and his older brother, Ahmonte Watkins, played at Riverside Academy prior to his senior year at Klein Forest in Texas (which is where Jelani Watkins is in school now). Ahmonte signed with TCU, then transferred to New Mexico State.
Now, LSU is putting the full court press on Jelani – and doing so in multiple sports.
Watkins is one of the fastest sprinters in Texas, and he just repeated as the UIL Class 6A state champion in the 200-meter dash, and he anchored a pair of winning relays for Klein Forest.
During his LSU official visit, Watkins was also able to meet with the track-and-field staff, including current assistant and former football and track athlete Bennie Brazell.
To this point, Watkins has not made official visits to any other college programs. While no decision date is set in stone, I feel confident enough about LSU’s chances to enter an On3 RPM pick for the Tigers with an 80% confidence rating.
LSU has commitments from three wide receivers for the 2024 class in Georgia’s Joseph Stone and Louisiana’s Kylan Billiot and Michael Turner.
